Change in the decoration of the R31
During this morning's free practice at Silverstone, the Lotus Renault GP team's car appeared with a new livery, the gold color now replaced by a more discreet beige... And more telegenic.
The decoration of the Lotus Renault GP team’s cars had certainly caused a lot of ink to be spilled at the start of the season. Now black with gold accents, the R31s unmistakably evoked—intentionally—the legendary JPS-liveried Lotus cars of the eighties.
But starting today and apparently for the rest of the season, the two R31s will be displayed in beige rather than gold. No specific details from Enstone, except that this change is said to be related to visibility issues, as the cars supposedly have a better appearance on screen.
This change is reminiscent of the alteration in the livery of the Jordan Grand Prix cars in the 1990s, which, although sponsored by the cigarette company Benson & Hedges, shifted from gold to yellow for the same reasons.
Remains to be seen if this color change will bring luck to the Lotus Renault GP team, which is looking to get back on the podium after six Grand Prix.
