Jarno Trulli considers life after F1

The 37-year-old Italian driver, who has been fighting at the back of the grid with the Lotus team since 2010, is beginning to consider the next step in his career in another discipline.

Jarno Trulli considers life after F1

Jarno Trulli expressed his frustration about his current situation in the premier category to the Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport. Indeed, after a point-less season in 2010, which was not surprising given the lack of experience of Tony Fernandes’ Lotus team, the native of Pescara could hope at the beginning of the 2011 season to shine a bit more than the previous year. Especially with a car now powered by Renault, the engine supplier of the reigning world champion team.

However, recurring adaptation problems with his single-seater have undermined the start of Jarno Trulli’s 2011 season, and the driver is regularly outperformed by his teammate, the Finn Heikki Kovalainen.

« I’m used to fighting for the podium. The current situation is difficult. I might be interested in what’s being done elsewhere and decide to leave Formula 1, » declared the Team Lotus driver. It’s worth remembering that before joining the small Lotus Racing structure in 2010, Jarno Trulli drove for the Toyota team, where he had a good 2009 season, finishing on the podium three times and ranking 8th in the drivers’ championship. Far from his 21st place in 2010…

To the question of where Jarno Trulli sees himself continuing his racing career, the Italian replies: endurance, with a good team, might interest me. The Lotus driver even specifies imagining participation in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which for him would be a great first.

Remains to be seen what the rest of the season holds for Jarno Trulli, before possibly leaving F1 for good.
