Friday: Vettel makes a mistake for the first time with the Red Bull

Sebastian Vettel hit the safety rail this morning on the straight line of the Istanbul Park circuit. The German had to abandon the session and was unable to run in the afternoon, as the team couldn't repair his car in such a short time. Mark Webber, for his part, had a rainy session but made good progress. He will obviously share his insights with his teammate. The team has some catching up to do, but they remain confident.

Friday: Vettel makes a mistake for the first time with the Red Bull

Mark Webber – 11th and 5th:

We learned some things today. It’s a new challenge to come here with the new regulations – it was slippery for everyone in the rain this morning. We had to postpone quite a bit of our program to the afternoon but for now we’re keeping things in order.

Sebastian Vettel had a terrible accident this morning that could have happened to anyone. It just shows that you can lose the car at any moment in these conditions. We will obviously share the data we’ve accumulated with his engineers so that everyone can progress faster. Every second must be used to gain experience, so with that in mind, the further we go, the better it is for us!

Sebastian Vettel – 7th and Accident:

There wasn’t much I could do to prevent the car from hitting the rail this morning. But the most important thing is that I’m fine. Unfortunately, we couldn’t repair the car for the afternoon, so I’m sorry for the team, it makes things more difficult but I don’t think it will be a real problem for the race. I’m confident, even if our opponents seem to be getting closer. Moreover, I was able to see the lap times from the inside today and it was quite a different impression.
