Sunday: Kobayashi brings another point for Sauber
Sauber brings back a point from this Chinese Grand Prix. The Swiss team wasn't in the points at the start, but Kobayashi was opportunistic at the very end of the Grand Prix to deprive di Resta of 10th place and the point awarded to it. Pérez, for his part, made headlines for his collision with Sutil, but the Mexican apologizes and is learning more and more from his F1 experience.
Kamui Kobayashi – 10th:
I am very happy to have been able to score at least one point today. I had a good start that allowed me to gain a few positions. It was important after qualifying where I wasn’t in the position I wanted to be. When I tried to get closer to Adrian [Sutil] on lap 14, we had a car in front of us that didn’t see us. I hit it, and that’s why I had a hole in my front wing. In fact, it wasn’t a problem for driving even though dust and gravel were getting into the cockpit. My white suit wasn’t so white by the end of the race, but it doesn’t matter. I then made my second stop earlier than we had planned, and I had 26 laps left to do on hard tires. I was able to overtake Paul di Resta three laps before the end, but it was now or never because I have to admit that after this overtake, my tires were gone.
Sergio Perez – 17th:
My start was rather good but I didn’t take the first corner well and lost some positions. First of all, I’m sorry about what happened with Adrian [Sutil] – sorry for him and the team. At that point in the race, I had to make the most of my tires, I was under pressure from Vitaly [Petrov] so I was pushing hard. Unfortunately, I lost the rear of the car while I was already on the inside of Sutil. I had to move towards him to avoid losing the car and I’m not proud of it. However, today I felt more comfortable than ever with the car.
Peter Sauber – Team Principal:
«It was a very exciting race today and difficult, but we bring back a point. We are happy about it. Especially since the car has more potential than what we were able to see today, mainly because both drivers were stuck in traffic during the race.»
