Barcelona Test Day 5: Rain Disrupts Formula 1

Hispania Racing Team ultimately never participated in private testing with its new car – the F111. Just like last season, HRT never had the opportunity to try out the new Formula 1 on track… and for a more than ironic reason… customs. The Spanish customs indeed did not allow HRT’s dampers to pass, blocking the construction of the HRT.

No regrets for the Spanish team, which wouldn’t have been able to take advantage of the track under optimal conditions anyway. Rain indeed made its presence felt for the last four teams still in Barcelona. In fact, 7 teams chose to race from March 8 to 11, with the others opting for a one-day delay…

Mercedes GP, McLaren, Williams, and Ferrari will have done very little running. With 35 laps, it’s Nico Rosberg who was the most diligent on the track. The German sets the best time, 20 seconds slower than yesterday’s lap times… Maldonado’s Williams follows 6 tenths behind. Hamilton and the McLaren recorded the slowest time of the day. Alonso and Schumacher only took the track for a few warm-up laps.

Next meeting with the F1 in two weeks, on the Albert Park track in Australia.
