Romain Grosjean: “There is a real buzz around this team”

Romain Grosjean, you will be the third driver for Lotus Renault GP in 2011. What does this opportunity mean for you?

It’s a wonderful opportunity to return to Formula 1 because my dream is to regain my place on the grid. It’s the right time to join this team because it’s becoming stronger and stronger, and everyone could see its progress last year. Now, with the arrival of Lotus as a partner, there’s a real buzz around the team, and it’s very exciting to be part of the adventure.

You have had a long association with Enstone through your links with Renault. Was it special to return there?

It was just like coming home. It brought back a lot of good memories because I know the place well and have many friends here. It’s also special in the sense that the team is experiencing a new beginning, and everyone is showing great motivation and enthusiasm for the year ahead.

You have been around F1 for several years. What can you still learn from your role as a test driver?

There are always things to learn in F1, especially at this time when drivers have much less time in the cars. Just attending the technical meetings will be beneficial, and I know I can learn a lot by listening to Robert and Vitaly talk about the car.

Your objectives for 2011 and what will be your competition program alongside F1?

I’m going to race in GP2 Asia and GP2 this year with DAMS. I’m really looking forward to it because this season marks the start of a new car and new Pirelli tires. So, it will be a fresh start for everyone. The team is highly motivated and we’re ready to fight for the title.
