Free Practice 2: Hamilton Confirms McLaren’s Superiority

After Jenson Button in the morning, it’s Lewis Hamilton, the other McLaren driver and 2008 world champion, who records the best time of the weekend. He dominates this second free practice session in China. Hamilton, who is a candidate to become the fourth winner in four Grand Prix races this 2010 season, takes the top spot from Nico Rosberg in a Mercedes halfway through the session. Thanks to his option tires, he sets a lap time of 1:35.217.

No one else managed to get close to the Briton as Rosberg remains 0.2 seconds behind. However, the German driver got closer by improving his lap time. He ultimately finished second with a time of 1:35.465, a tenth ahead of Jenson Button, who finished third.

Michael Schumacher improved in this second round of tests and is very close to his teammate with a lap time of 1:35.602. Sebastian Vettel is over half a second off the reference pace for Red Bull, in fifth position just ahead of his teammate Mark Webber.

Adrian Sutil (Force India) finished seventh, Jaime Alguersuari is in eighth place. He was the only driver competing for Scuderia Toro Rosso as his teammate Sebastien Buemi stayed in the pits after his morning crash. Robert Kubica for Renault is ninth while Fernando Alonso and Ferrari still make it into the top 10.

The Spaniard was on track for most of the time hoping to make up for the delay accumulated this morning. He is 3 tenths faster than his teammate Felipe Massa, who is eleventh in this event. Next comes Vitaly Petrov in the second R30 in 12th position, followed by the two Sauber drivers who surprise. De la Rosa is ahead of Kobayashi.

The Williams are only 15th and 17th with Rubens Barrichello ahead of Nico Hülkenberg. Tonio Liuzzi and his Force India are between them. Then we have the two Lotus cars while Virgin and Hispania share the end of the standings.
