The misfortunes of Virgin were highly publicized this morning when Glock’s left front wheel detached from the car in the middle of a turn. The German expertly managed the problem to return to the pit without bothering anyone. But Virgin doesn’t stop there and focuses on its performance and especially its reliability.
The low-cost team will participate in its first Grand Prix tomorrow. With experience, Glock hopes to finish the race while di Grassi hopes to improve his times.
Timo Glock – 19th and 19th:
« It’s a good point to be the best in the team today and I’m happy with what we achieved. It’s a team result and a reward for everyone who works hard and tirelessly. It’s difficult to get the best out of the current package but we are striving. We still have huge mountains to climb but being just two and a half seconds behind teams with decades of experience is not so bad. »
Lucas di Grassi – 23rd and 22nd:
« First of all, I must thank all the team members; they have done an excellent job. The car is reliable and it’s a good start compared to the only three laps I was able to complete in the morning. I am happy with these first F1 qualifications. I know that we will have plenty of opportunities to shine or score points in the future. »
Nick Wirth – Technical Director:
« For our first time, we’re not doing too badly. Timo Glock handled the free practice 3 well this morning, and despite some wheel issues (note: The Virgin’s wheel came off the car due to a loose nut), we participated in our qualifications without problems. »
Regarding our performances, the track is constantly changing and we need to learn to manage this phenomenon. We are capable of breaking the 58-second mark per lap, but we will need to achieve it during the race. Overall, our goal was reached today…
