Barcelona Day 2: Hülkenberg gives the point to Williams ahead of Alonso

The second day of testing in Barcelona ended today. It was the young Nico Hülkenberg who topped the timesheets under the beautiful Catalonia sun. Fernando Alonso’s Ferrari finished a few hundredths behind the FW32, in front of his home crowd, while Renault and Virgin are still counting their kilometers covered.

Hülkenberg practiced qualifying simulations early in the afternoon, which explains his very good lap time. Alonso finished 23 thousandths behind, disappointed with the reliability of the Scuderia, which caused a red flag in the morning due to an electrical problem. The Spaniard, for his part, performed a qualifying simulation in the morning, driving almost a second faster than Webber did the day before.

Most of the teams completed a full race and qualifying simulation. Several teams covered more than 100 laps. Conversely, Renault and Virgin only did 53 and 52 laps today, just hours before the FIA ban on private track testing.
