Cosworth engines are ready to be delivered!

The new engine manufacturer for the 2010 season, Cosworth, announced that its first batch of engines is ready to be shipped from Northampton, England. Just weeks before the first free practice sessions, Cosworth aims to be reassuring.

In 2009, four engine suppliers were present with Mercedes, Ferrari, Renault, and Toyota. In 2010, with Toyota’s withdrawal, several changes were made among the manufacturers. Williams decided to replace its Toyota engines with Cosworth ones. The British engine supplier will also provide its CA2010 engines to the four new teams. Williams, Lotus, Campos, USF1, and Virgin Racing have signed a contract with Cosworth through 2012, aiming to reduce costs in Formula 1. Cosworth will thus return to F1 after four seasons of absence.

« The first batch of CA2010 engines is ready to be shipped to our customers. They will then have the necessary time to install them and get them up and running for the initial tests. » Confirms Mark Gallagher, the Chief Operating Officer of Cosworth.

We are eager to see them in action in the cars next month, but there is still a lot of work to be done before the start of the season. It’s really gratifying to be at this stage of production and to think that our long months of summer and autumn working are finally rewarded.

Cosworth was designated as the official engine supplier for the FIA last July. The objective was to supply engines to at least four teams in order to reduce the construction cost of a single-seater.
