Michael Schumacher, who was appointed a few weeks ago as a full-time driver at Mercedes Grand Prix (formerly Brawn GP), said he is impressed by the motivation of his new team. The German will race alongside his compatriot Nico Rosberg in the reigning champion car.
Presented in Stuttgart, where Mercedes has its headquarters, Michael Schumacher went to Brackley in England last weekend, where Brawn GP had its factory. The German worked at the factory for two days and answered questions from the employees and the local press.
« This is the second time I have been to the Brackley factory, and now I know the engineers and the team’s structure better. I am extremely surprised because everyone seems extraordinarily motivated. » Comments the seven-time world champion on his official website. « It’s a world champion team, but they don’t seem to have gotten a big head and remain hungry for victory! »
According to the German, this second visit is necessary to learn from the team: « It’s important for me to be informed about everything that happens here and it’s great to understand the spirit of a group and their way of working. I was already here for the contract signing and have learned a lot since. »
Schumacher also visited Brixworth to see the Mercedes engine construction site. He was delighted to finally be able to speak German in his Formula 1 team: « At Brixworth, I was impressed by the level of expertise and motivation. It’s encouraging, especially from a personal perspective. I heard German being spoken. It felt good because for years in F1 I had to speak English or Italian… it’s rather nice. »
