Barely created, the new Formula 1 team, Campos META could be sold to a Mexican investor: Tony Teixeira. The director of the A1GP series is indeed said to be linked to the new Campos Grand Prix team. The Spanish team is reportedly analyzing the proposal.
A few weeks ago, Bernie Ecclestone warned about the inability of some of the new F1 teams to complete their budgets. Today, Adrian Campos warns that he is struggling to find the necessary funds to compete in Formula 1 in 2010 and under pressure would agree to sell his barely born team to whoever could afford it…
On Monday, sources close to Teixeira, a Mexican investor and holder of the A1GP series, stated that the man was close to Campos and could contribute to the 2010 budget. Other opportunities have arisen for the Spanish team, including an offer from the Canadian Stefan GP. Indeed, no title sponsor is planned for Campos, and the funds from the former GP2 team are not sufficient.
Teixeira has been interested in Formula 1 for several years and has previously been linked to the acquisition of Honda, Toro Rosso, and Spyker, but without finalizing any deals.
Tony Teixeira warned a few months ago about these failures: « I tried to negotiate with Honda and offer a contract to Spyker and then to Toro Rosso, but I was always told: ‘we don’t want a customer team’. »
Today it’s different, with the A1GP, I have built my own single-seaters and I have my own factory. I just have to put the Ferrari engine in and I could come to F1… I am now like the other leaders on the grid. But the space is missing.
For now, it is Dallara who is finalizing the chassis for Campos Meta. The first outing of the car is scheduled for February in Valencia (Spain), and so far, only Bruno Senna has been officially confirmed as the primary driver. Pedro de la Rosa is the favorite for the second seat.
The team’s situation should be clarified by the end of the week.
