Red Bull, Ferrari and McLaren monopolize the top spots for the best pit stops this season
Motors Inside analyzed all of the 606 pit stops that took place this season. The best pit stops are carried out by McLaren, Ferrari and Red Bull. AlphaTauri appears in 18th position and Aston Martin in 52nd position.
Out of 606 pit stops in 2023 after the Qatar Grand Prix (only realized in Grand Prix, excluding Sprint), the 17 best stops are achieved by three teams: McLaren, Ferrari and Red Bull. You have to go down to the 18th place to see a 4th team appear and it is AlphaTauri.
The 4 best teams in the pit stop game therefore leave little room for the other 6 in F1. The 5th best team in this ranking appears in 52nd position of the best pit stops, all Grand Prix combined, it is Aston Martin.
The best time achieved by Alpine is the 53rd best absolute pit stops this season only. Mercedes only comes in 68th absolute position, Williams appears in 85th position, Haas in 145th position, while Alfa Romeo only appears in 158th position.
The fastest pit stops this season by team
This season, it is therefore McLaren who has made the best stop in F1, to date of the Qatar Grand Prix. The Woking team took the opportunity to set the world record for the fastest pit stop in Formula 1. Ferrari is in second place in this ranking with a best stop 13 milliseconds slower. Red Bull is in third place with a time close to 2 seconds.
We notice a big difference starting from the 4th position, held by AlphaTauri with a time of 2.19 seconds, which is 0.39 seconds slower than the best stop by McLaren.

The 10 best pit stops of the season
This season, McLaren, Ferrari and Red Bull are the teams making the fastest pit stops. According to Motors Inside research, the top 10 fastest stops only includes times achieved by one of these three teams. The podium is well distributed as Ferrari is second, ahead of Red Bull. The top 10 is also evenly distributed as it features McLaren 4 times, Red Bull 4 times, and Ferrari twice.
As of the Qatar Grand Prix, the 17th race of the season, the total pit stops made by all drivers are 606. Out of these 606 pit stops, the 17 best are performed by McLaren, Ferrari, or Red Bull. AlphaTauri has the 18th best pit stop. One must then go down to the 52nd best pit stop of the season to see another team, which is Aston Martin.
Out of the 51 best stops of the season, we therefore find Ferrari, Red Bull or McLaren 46 times. While AlphaTauri appears 4 times. Ferrari appears 14 times, McLaren 13 times and Red Bull 19 times.

The teams that make the most pit stops in 2023 (after Qatar)
Alfa Romeo is, until the Qatar Grand Prix, the team that has made the most pit stops with 70 stops, which is over 11% of the total stops. Conversely, Ferrari is the one that has stopped the least with only 52 stops, which is 8.41% of the total stops to date.
This chart allows us to note in particular that the total number of stops per team is quite balanced this season. This factor depends on track strategies but also on clashes. We can thus see that Red Bull is the 2nd team to have stopped the most, tied with Haas, for wing changes notably.

Motors Inside has ranked all pit stops, ignoring exceptionally long stops (+ 9 seconds), by groups of 10%. This table below makes it possible to highlight which are the teams by 10% slice of the best stops up to 10% of the slowest stops, which are most represented by slice.
We can clearly see that Red Bull is in the top deciles unlike Alfa Romeo for example or Haas. Mercedes is only represented from the 3rd decile.
