Ecclestone confirms four takeover bids for Renault

According to Formula 1’s chief financier, Bernie Ecclestone, the Renault team is indeed in trouble but will be present under its name in 2010 and the following years. He explains, however, that a partial buyout of the team could be carried out by four different names to secure the future of Renault F1.

Last week, Prodrive (David Richards) and Gérard Lopez became known as possible buyers of the Renault F1 Team, which is facing financial difficulties. Today, Bernie Ecclestone announced that there are two other people interested in financing Renault.

« David Richards is undoubtedly the favorite, » admits Ecclestone to the English newspaper The Times. « But there is also Gérard Lopez’s group and two other people. I don’t think there is any rush to close the deal. But the sooner it is done, the better it will be for us. »

A meeting is to be held this week in Paris to clarify the situation. Ecclestone hopes that the decision will be made within 10 days: « I hope this issue will be resolved in the next 10 days. Just before everyone leaves for Christmas vacation! »

According to rumors, Megafon, the new Russian sponsor of Renault and a telecommunications giant in Russia, could be one of the two other potential buyers.
