Ocon, Hülkenberg and Perez summoned to the stewards after their major crash in sprint race
The three drivers involved in the mid-sprint race accident, Esteban Ocon, Nico Hülkenberg and Sergio Perez, were summoned by the race commissioners. One or more of them may receive a penalty following the accident.
The race commissioners have published three requests to discuss with the driver and a member of the driver’s team concerning Ocon (Alpine), Hülkenberg (Haas) and Sergio Perez (Red Bull).
The purpose of these summons is to determine whether it is useful to appoint a person in charge in the scuffle that led the three drivers to the mat, during the sprint race, thereby bringing the safety car in for the third time.
While Ocon was struggling with his soft tires, Hülkenberg caught up with him, as did Perez. The three men drew closer to each other until the wheel of the Alpine made contact with the Haas, causing the three single-seaters to leave the track and end up in the gravel.
Sergio Perez’s withdrawal had a significant impact on the championship as it allowed Max Verstappen to be crowned, even before the end of the sprint race.
