Jarno Trulli is optimistic that he will remain in Formula 1 next year even though Toyota admitted on Friday that it was very unlikely that the Italian would stay with the Japanese manufacturer in 2010. Trulli’s future with Toyota has been surrounded by doubts for several weeks, but it now seems almost certain that he will not stay with his current team.

Trulli was linked to Renault for 2010 but still on Friday, he stated that he did not wish to discuss his plans and remained optimistic about his prospects: « For the moment, to be honest, I don’t want to talk about the situation because there are a lot of rumors about drivers and teams. I’m just staying calm for now. »

« I have a few options, and we also need to check with Toyota. But in general, I am optimistic. Let’s wait and see how things unfold. »

The team president, John Howett, thus insisted that it was very likely that Trulli would not remain with the team next year: « I would say it’s unlikely he’ll be with us next year. That’s my most sincere feeling, » said Howett. « I don’t like to say this because we’re talking about careers, but I think he’s done an excellent job for us. We tried to find a compromise, but so far we haven’t. I believe it’s very unlikely. »
