The qualifying sessions for the Japanese Grand Prix were interrupted twice by a red flag during the first two sessions. Jaime Alguersuari, driving for Toro Rosso, was responsible for the first one but managed to get out of his car after a few minutes. He was seen a few minutes later in the paddock of the small Scuderia, reassuring everyone about his health. It’s the second red flag that is more concerning. Timo Glock, the Toyota driver, was evacuated by ambulance after a heavy crash during Q2.
The German driver, who already missed Friday’s practice sessions due to illness, went off the track at the last corner and crashed heavily into the tire barriers. Even though he immediately removed his steering wheel, it took several minutes for Glock to be extracted from his car.
The Toyota driver, however, gave a thumbs-up, a positive sign, as he was carried away on a stretcher. The FIA stated that Glock’s general condition was good and that he was taken to the medical center for further examinations.
