In front of his audience, the time may have come for Kazuki Nakajima to impress his team, Team Williams. He is the hero of the day in the land of the rising sun even though he didn’t come out on top in the first or second free practice sessions. He was close this morning, but Kovalainen disrupted his plans. He finished second, and this afternoon he is still in the top 5.
His teammate from Williams is more withdrawn in the rain. He only manages the 10th and 16th fastest times. Everyone is eagerly awaiting a drier day like tomorrow, which should normally see calm qualifying…
Nico Rosberg – 10th and 16th:
« Today, it was just a matter of trying the tires to get an understanding of the track on intermediate and wet tires. What was clear is that I destroyed the wet tires when the track dried. With the information from both cars, we now have a good understanding of what’s happening. »
Kazuki Nakajima – 2nd and 5th:
« It wasn’t a great day in terms of weather, but in terms of results, it was quite acceptable. We didn’t do many laps, but the ones we did gave us a good base for running in the rain this weekend. It seems positive, so I hope we’ll be in the same position tomorrow for qualifying, but preferably in the dry!
Sam Michael – Technical Director:
« It was a rather uneventful day in terms of operations due to the weather. We checked that the wet and intermediate tires are operational. Now we are going to prepare the car for the qualifiers with the new engines and gearboxes intended for the race. We will need to be conservative with the gear ratios tonight as no running has been done on dry surfaces. »
