The Bahrain Motor Federation has announced its support for the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile) presidential candidate Jean Todt for the election taking place at the end of the month. BMF President Sheikh Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa stated that his country’s priorities are closely aligned with those of the Frenchman.
The BMF stated that Al Khalifa had spoken on the phone to Ari Vatanen, Jean Todt’s rival, to inform him of Bahrain’s decision: « Motorsports, in general, face a number of unique global challenges today as it is necessary to adapt to the realities of the current economic climate, increased environmental challenges, improved safety, competitiveness, good governance, and the continuous development of an organization directly representing more than 100 million fans worldwide, » said Al Khalifa.
« Our priorities in identifying a preferred candidate to support during the October elections have been to ensure that the candidate has a clear vision in several areas: The sustainable development of motor sports, a deep understanding of the overall public policy agenda for users and car manufacturers, a defined program to advance FIA structures, and finally, a firm commitment to reflecting on the role each region has to play in the development of the FIA. »
« We believe that Jean Todt and his team have fully demonstrated these values and this vision. He also has extensive experience in the field. Therefore, I am pleased to announce that the Bahrain Motor Federation (BMF) supports Jean Todt’s candidacy. »
