The Bahrain International Circuit is pleased to host the first round of the 2010 Formula 1 championship. The event, which will be held at the Sakhir circuit on March 14, replaces Australia as the opening Grand Prix since Melbourne has been moved to the second position in the calendar.
« It’s fantastic to think that nearly six years ago to the day, His Majesty King Shaikh Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa took the keys to the Sakhir circuit, and that next year, we will be the first race of the 2010 season. It will be an important year both for Formula 1 and for our official sponsor Gulf Air, » said the circuit director, Martin Whitaker.
It’s a great honor to host the first race and this event reinforces our position as the motorsport country in the Middle East. Bahrain has earned the title of The Friendly Race and we look forward to extending this warm welcome to many others in 2010. On March 14th, we take the baton of a new era in Formula 1. We will celebrate the 60th anniversary of F1 with our race sponsor Gulf Air.
