Toro Rosso returns to the second qualifying session, Q2, thanks to Sébastien Buemi. After commendable free practice 3, the Swiss driver delivered a solid performance by passing the Q1 stage. He will start tomorrow from the 14th position on the grid as he managed to keep Jarno Trulli behind him.
His teammate is still in the learning phase, made very difficult by the nature of the track in Marina Bay, Singapore. He is only 17th but could benefit from race events, the first of which could come from Barrichello, who might start from the pits…
Sébastien Buemi – 9th and 14th:
« I am very happy because the qualifying session went well without any mistakes. I got the maximum I could out of the car and I’m happy to have gained a place over Trulli. I’m glad to finally be back in Q2 because I’ve been waiting for this for a long time. We now have to work on our race strategy, get a good start, and execute the pit stops correctly.
Jaime Alguersuari – 18th and 17th:
« We did our best today and we are faster. It was quite difficult, but I am more comfortable on the track after each lap completed. Since it is a street circuit, anything can happen tomorrow, so I hope to have a good race. »
Laurent Mekies – Chief Engineer
« We had a very difficult Friday and made a major change to the car setup this evening, which seems to have been a positive step. Sébastien and Jaime also improved their performance. Jaime is having his best weekend on a track that is difficult to learn, and Sébastien makes his return to Q2 after a few races’ break. We’re not yet where we want to be, but having made a good step forward since Friday, there is still room for improvement in the race, which will likely be very chaotic, so anything can happen. »
