Friday: Renault starts dreaming with its KERS!

Renault successfully completed its first day of work in Monza with free practice sessions 1 and 2, in preparation for the Italian Grand Prix. And it is a more than positive assessment that should be credited to the team. After a sluggish start in the morning, Romain Grosjean put on a real show in the afternoon. He narrowly missed the top spot in favor of Adrian Sutil.

Fernando Alonso focuses more on consistency with the 4th and 3rd fastest times of the day between the two sessions. However, two configurations were tested with some runs loaded with fuel and others not!

Fernando Alonso – 4th and 3rd:

A normal Friday for us. We worked on the settings and evaluated the tires. If we can find more performance tomorrow, we will be in good shape for the qualifying.

Romain Grosjean – 15th and 2nd:

« My day went quite well. I discovered Monza at the wheel of a F1: it’s the temple of speed, a unique circuit where there is a lot to learn, especially the procedures for using KERS. In the end, we finished the day well as I continued to progress by working with the engineers. I’m trying to focus on setup options that suit me, the results are positive, and I will continue in this direction tomorrow. »

Pat Symonds – Executive Director of Engineering:

« Monza is a unique circuit and, among the various parameters to monitor, brake wear is paramount. This is why it is necessary to run with a reasonable fuel load. Similarly, good tire management is essential and, once again, this is a good reason to run with a lot of fuel during practice. Naturally, there is a big difference between race setups and qualifying setups. That’s why we ran with both high and low fuel today. We are satisfied with the car’s performance in both types of situations. »
