Belgian GP: Force India remains on a good momentum

The Force India case is still atypical. Last team of the 2008 season, it begins the new year on new bases as the team signs an exceptional partnership with McLaren-Mercedes. All hopes are allowed as this team still won the driver’s title a few months earlier. Force India is in contact but remains at the end of the field in the first races of the season.

But since mid-season, the situation is completely different. The Indian team is in the middle of the pack and regularly fights to break into the top 10. But nothing seems to work, luck is never on their side, and the team still hasn’t scored any points, leaving them in 10th position in the standings, which is the last place. Nevertheless, the drivers, Adrian Sutil and Giancarlo Fisichella, not lose hope, and anything can happen on the Spa-Francorchamps track.

Giancarlo Fisichella – Race Driver

« Every driver loves Spa and, for me, it’s the best circuit of the year. It’s 7km with lots of different turns, hairpins, and of course, the best corner of the year, Eau Rouge. In reality, it’s not as thrilling as it was a few years ago. Now we have more downforce and a bit less power with the V8. Even though it’s less challenging now, it’s still very exciting. The weather at Spa is always unpredictable. You can have rain in sector one, then it could be sunny in sector three. Valencia was a very good result for Force India. We are really in the midfield and we have a definite advantage over some teams and some drivers. The upgrades have made a big difference and the car was nice to drive. Spa is a bit different from Valencia but it’s still a very fast track, so I hope we can transfer the performance from last week to this weekend. »

Adrian Sutil – Racing Driver

« Along with Monaco, Spa is one of my favorite tracks. It’s a natural track through the forest where you have a real rhythm in the corners. It also offers very interesting races. Last year, the race was dry until two laps from the end, then everything changed suddenly. This year, I think we are in a good phase. Our new aerodynamic package has been a significant advancement, so I am very confident about getting a good result. I hope for the top 10, or even better. »

Vijay Mallya – President and Team Principal:

« I was really pleased with the team’s performance last weekend, even throughout the trials. Going into the weekend, we expected a gain of more than half a second with the new aerodynamic package, but you never know what the other teams might do. I think we can all be very proud of the progress we’ve made. We were fast, and we really maximized what we could do. Two finishes in the top 12 might seem frustrating because we’re still outside the points, but when you look at the people ahead of us and behind, we can’t be disappointed. »
