Willi Weber, Michael Schumacher’s manager, admits that the seven-time world champion is absolutely frustrated about having to cancel his return to Formula 1. He had been chosen to step in for the injured Felipe Massa for the European Grand Prix, but the German was forced to abandon his plans due to neck problems. Weber states that this setback has been difficult for both Schumacher and himself to accept.
« It is absolutely frustrating for him as well as for me because we were so happy with the situation. I am very sad not to see him in the car, » said Weber to the BBC microphones.
Weber also insisted that it is very unlikely to see Schumacher on the track later this season: « I don’t know if you were at the press conference in Geneva. He very clearly said that it is a long process, the healing process takes time. And we don’t know if it will take three, four, five, or six months. »
« He said very clearly that he continued to work to stay in good shape, but to ride a motorcycle or go karting. He has other concerns at the moment. »
Weber praises the work done by Luca Badoer despite the Italian’s disastrous results in Valencia: « I think Luca is doing a very good job. He hasn’t been in the car often and he has never driven on this track. Until now, he hasn’t had an accident, no touch. So, I think he is doing a brilliant job so far. »
