The Spanish driver Marc Gené confessed to the Iberian daily newspaper El Mundo that he has regrets about replacing Felipe Massa with Luca Badoer at the European Grand Prix. The fourth Ferrari driver had a difficult time watching the Grand Prix, which he could have raced in at home…
Massa was injured, initially leaving his place to Michael Schumacher for the European Grand Prix, held in Valencia this weekend. After experiencing severe neck pain, the German ultimately gave his place to Luca Badoer, 38 years old and Ferrari’s third driver, preferring him over Marc Gené.
Marc Gené, unlike Badoer, has been active lately, notably winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans a few weeks ago. He admitted that he found it hard to watch his home Grand Prix, knowing he had the opportunity to showcase his skills in a Ferrari seat: « Last weekend was not easy for me. »
It’s hard to accept such a fact: not racing in my home Grand Prix when I’ve won the 24 Hours of Le Mans and recently covered more than 10,000 km between Ferrari and Peugeot…
The Catalan driver is not yet certain whether Badoer will continue to race in Belgium at the next F1 event this weekend. However, he will respect Ferrari’s decision: “Whatever they decide; I will respect their choice. If I race, that’s great, if not, so be it. I am a team member and will act like any one of them. They know that I work hard and that I am ready just in case.”
After several hours of discussions between Badoer and Domenicali, head of Scuderia Ferrari, the Italian driver is expected to continue his work in Belgium. However, Marc Gené might have a chance for the following Grand Prix races.
