Red Bull Racing has confirmed that Sebastian Vettel will use a different engine for the European Grand Prix qualifying after an issue during the final practice session this morning. The German driver was only able to complete six laps after a major incident forced him to stop in the middle of the track.
The incident also triggered a red flag for more than 20 minutes in order to remove the oil that had spilled on the track. Red Bull therefore confirms that Vettel suffered from an engine problem that forces him to use another one for the rest of the weekend.
Drivers are allowed to use eight engines throughout the entire season before being penalized for using multiple units. It is estimated that Vettel is using his sixth engine of the season in Valencia.
