It’s the big comeback of Brawn GP to business. After a few races on the back foot, the Valencia Grand Prix in Spain might just favor the former Honda team. The car seems to be performing perfectly. The drivers are thrilled and demonstrate the ongoing improvements. In the two sessions, Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello finish in the top 4.
The Brazilian records the fastest time in the first round of tests while he is 3rd in the afternoon. The Briton improves throughout the day, moving from 4th to 2nd place. The team enters the race weekend with confidence and approaches Saturday with calmness.
Jenson Button – 4th and 2nd:
« We had a good first day of testing and it’s encouraging to see that the car seems to be back on pace. Our program was to check and evaluate the work we’ve done at the factory after the holidays. There are still some adjustments needed to be fully satisfied with the balance, but overall, the pace of the car seems quite good. »
Rubens Barrichello – 1st and 3rd:
« It feels good to be back at what seems to be a competitive level. Both sessions yesterday went well with a large amount of work done on both sides of the garage. I am very happy with the data we collected and how the car developed over the course of the day. If we can continue in this direction, then it will be a good weekend. »
Ross Brawn – Team Principal:
« We had a good start to the weekend with two intensive testing sessions. The temperatures are very high here, reaching 50°C on the track in the afternoon. We were therefore able to manage the tire temperatures. We did not encounter problems like in the last races. Both drivers followed very similar programs. We reviewed certain set-ups from previous races to improve our understanding of the car’s performance. Jenson and Rubens’ initial feedback confirms that we are heading in the right direction. We are pleased to have gathered so much data for the next race at Spa. Overall, it’s a very good start to the weekend. »
