Force India really deserves to score points this weekend in Valencia for the European Grand Prix. What a superb day for the team that was at the back of the F1 grid just a few weeks ago. Adrian Sutil sets the 6th fastest time of the day in a very competitive VJM02, greatly aided by a new aerodynamic package.
His teammate, Giancarlo Fisichella, took a little longer to get used to this urban track, but tonight he recorded the 8th fastest time, so he has nothing to envy from Sutil. Good qualifying performances are expected tomorrow and it would be a fair reward…
Adrian Sutil – 6th and 6th:
« It was a good day for us today. Sixth place is perfect and I hope we will be in the running for a good spot in Q2. It’s very encouraging and I can’t wait to drive on the track. We had a few minor adjustments to make on the car, which prevented us from running as much as we wanted in both sessions, but ultimately, the balance is positive. We conducted an evaluation of the tires and even though it was difficult at the beginning, we understood their characteristics at the end of the second session. I don’t think it will be a problem in the race. »
Giancarlo Fisichella – 16th and 8th:
« I was able to perform more than a reasonable lap at the end of this afternoon. I was struggling this morning with graining on the rear tires, but it went better on the softs. We made some changes in the afternoon, and I am convinced that we are moving in the right direction. I can feel that this package is a step forward, but it’s quite close at the moment, so we’ll see tomorrow. I feel very good. »
Dominic Harlow – Chief Race Engineer:
« A large number of improvements for this Friday and in general it was a success on our cars. This circuit is particularly tough on the rear tires, and on a slippery and green track, this means we had to work on the balance. Aside from a few minor mechanical issues, the team had no problems. It’s very close on the field, we can’t make any predictions for the qualifications, but we seem to be on the right track to place honorably on the grid. »
