Heidfeld blames Alonso for his accident

Nick Heidfeld severely criticized Fernando Alonso in a press conference after the collision between the two drivers during the free practice session this afternoon.

In Valencia, for the European Grand Prix, free practice 2 took place this afternoon. After more than an hour in the session, Fernando Alonso (Renault) collided with Nick Heidfeld (BMW) at the entrance to the last corner. Alonso was able to return to his pit to change his front wing, while Nick Heidfeld returned to his garage prematurely, facing more damage.

At the end of the day, Nick Heidfeld expressed his disappointment with Alonso’s behavior and especially for having to leave the second practice session of this European Grand Prix earlier than expected.

« Such accidents are really unnecessary during tests, » comments the BMW driver. « I saw him in my mirrors locking his wheels and trying to overtake me, but he went straight into me and I was hit. »

Heidfeld immediately labeled Alonso’s move as (s) stupid (e) on his radio before returning to the pit.

The Renault, by crashing into the BMW, became wedged under the chassis of the F1.09, lifting Heidfeld a meter above the track.
