Vettel renews his contract with Red Bull Racing

Sebastian Vettel has committed to the long term with Red Bull Racing as he has just extended his contract with the team until 2012. The German joined the Austrian team at the start of this season on a two-year deal. He is impressing as he has claimed two victories and is fighting with his teammate Mark Webber and Jenson Button (Brawn GP) for the world champion title.

The fine form of Vettel and the promises of Red Bull have convinced both parties to extend their commitment with a new contract that runs until the end of 2011. There is also an option in place for the 2012 season. This announcement comes a few weeks after the team announced an extension of Webber’s contract until the end of next year.

Vettel, who has been supported by the Red Bull junior driver program since the age of 12, is the youngest winner in F1. This dates back to a year ago with his triumph for Scuderia Toro Rosso under the pouring rain of the Italian Grand Prix.

He entered F1 as a test driver for BMW-Sauber and had his first racing experience with the team during the 2007 United States Grand Prix. An agreement was then reached with Scuderia Toro Rosso for a transfer as a race driver starting from the 2007 Hungarian Grand Prix. He stayed with the Faenza team until the end of last season, a total of 18 months.
