Robert Kubica has described himself as open regarding his options for a seat in 2010, following BMW’s decision to exit the sport at the end of the season. The Pole has been linked to a deal with Renault, a team with which he tested during his junior career before being signed as a test driver at BMW.
Thinking he would stay with the German team next year since he was under contract, the winner of the 2008 Canadian Grand Prix says he is open to offers from different teams: « I am very open-minded. I may have my opinion, but you are never certain about your future in Formula 1, the BMW case confirms this thought. In Hungary, everything was fine and a few days later, this decision became public. It’s very difficult to know what might happen in the future, which is why I remain very open. »
Kubica added that he did not expect to find himself so freely on the transfer market: “I have been tied with BMW for a very long time, since 2006,” said the 24-year-old driver. “We had a contract for next year, and this situation is new for us and the people who work for me. We will have other meetings to find the best solution for me for next year.”
« I think there are few possibilities, but everyone was on vacation, so we will start working on the subject. I am quite convinced that I will find a good place to be in the sport next year. Of course, it is difficult to know where I will be, but I hope it will be in a competitive car. »
It is true that his poor performances in 2009 do not put him in the spotlight and that it was difficult to show his talent. However, he wants to believe that the teams know what he is capable of behind the wheel of an F1 car: « I think this year, it is much more difficult to show what I am capable of. I think all teams want fast drivers in their cars and I believe I showed all my qualities last year. »
