Michael Schumacher has begun his preparation with the aim of being fully ready for the Formula 1 European Grand Prix next month.
The seven-time world champion will replace Felipe Massa in Valencia while the Brazilian continues his recovery following his accident at the Hungarian Grand Prix last weekend.
Schumacher visited the Ferrari factory in Maranello yesterday, where he worked on a static simulation to check the steering wheel features.
The German settled into an F2007 in which he is conducting tests on the Mugello circuit today since 11 o’clock.
Schumacher admitted that he would try to cover as many kilometers as possible before his return, even if it means driving old cars.
« There is this ban on testing in Formula 1, so I got in touch with some F1 guys to see if they could give me a car, » Schumacher wrote on his website.
The next few weeks will therefore be entirely dedicated to preparation.
