Renault confirmed it would appeal the FIA’s decision banning it from competing in the European Grand Prix. This sanction was imposed for the race incident today in Hungary, where Fernando Alonso’s wheel detached and bounced on the track before crashing into a tire wall.
The team has filed its papers and a deposit of 6000 Euros for the appeal fees. The hearing will probably take place during the summer break and before the GP of Valencia scheduled for August 23.
The documents, submitted in collaboration with the French motorsport federation, were signed by the head of the Renault team, Steve Nielsen, and were received by the FIA member, Alan Donnelly, shortly before 7 p.m.
If the sanction is upheld, it will be a tough blow for Renault, which seems to be regaining form. A potential good result might therefore only happen in Belgium at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit.
But a lot of things can happen during this month of August, like a transfer that everyone is whispering about, from Fernando Alonso to Ferrari in place of Massa who is still convalescent.
