Brawn GP has begun its preparation for the Hungarian Grand Prix this weekend. The team ran extensively today during the first and second practice sessions on the Hungaroring circuit, a few kilometers from Budapest, Hungary’s capital.
Under sunny and warm conditions, Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello completed a busy program to perfect the use of significant aerodynamic updates on the Brawn GP Mercedes. The team also focused on the usual tire evaluation, here the soft and super-soft.
The two drivers completed nearly 130 laps, which is more than 565 kilometers. They did not seek performance today but believe they have made a good start. It should enable them to succeed in their qualifications tomorrow.
Rubens Barrichello – 13th and 7th:
« Our work today was to understand the functioning of the two tire components in order to know their operating window and understand their influence on the car’s balance. I focused mainly on the hard tires, which we have the most trouble with. It’s important to consider the tires to find the best setup. Then we focused on the softer tires (this afternoon). They seem faster, and overall, I’m happy with our progress today.
Jenson Button – 10th and 13th:
« It’s a much better Friday than in the past few races. Fortunately, the temperatures here are higher, which works in our favor. This, combined with the aerodynamic updates, has made today’s work fruitful. We have several avenues to optimize the car, so it’s a good start to the weekend. »
Ross Brawn – Director
The day was productive, and we are happy with the work accomplished with the setups found. The first impression we had of the new aero elements here is good, and the drivers are pleased with the progress made.
« The temperatures are higher than in previous Grand Prix events, which allows us to optimize the performance of the car. We can therefore hope for a good qualifying session tomorrow, which will be crucial for the race. Overtaking is indeed complicated here. »
