Webber extends his contract with Red Bull for 2010

The winner of the 2009 German Grand Prix, Mark Webber, was able to extend his contract with the Red Bull Racing team for the 2010 season. The Australian is at his best, and Red Bull does not want to miss out on this opportunity.

Webber joined Red Bull in 2007 after being with Jaguar and then arriving at Williams in 2003. In his third season with Red Bull, he reached his best level, despite being on the mend. The Australian had a serious bicycle accident this winter, breaking his leg and shoulder.

“I’m delighted to have extended Mark Webber for 2010,” comments Christian Horner, director of the Austrian team. “Despite his cycling accident, he has shown great motivation and determination, and his recent results prove that he is at his best right now. He has both the fitness and motivation to be at the highest level, and he even won the German Grand Prix. Therefore, extending his contract was just a formality for us.”

Mark Webber has a good chance of having the young Sebastian Vettel as his teammate next season, as he did this season. Horner is already pleased with this line-up.

« We have one of the most complete driver line-ups on the 2009 grid. The youth of Vettel and the experience of Webber. »

For his part, Webber expressed his joy at staying with the team and his hopes for 2010: « I have always wanted to stay with this team, and I hope I will be able to win again next year. Even at the beginning of our relationship, when things were more complicated in terms of performance, I was happy to work for them. Having good results makes the work even more enjoyable, and I hope this continues for a long time. It’s true that just as I am happy to be fighting at the top of the world championship this year, I am just as eager to contribute to the birth of the RB6 for next year. »
