The Spanish authorities have promised to tighten security at Valencia airport for the European Grand Prix taking place next month. Several events in recent weeks have raised concerns about issues with the intense flow of travelers.
The head of FIA security, Thierry Jouan, wrote to the authorities in question warning them that a high-risk population will arrive in the Spanish city. He therefore asks them to take additional precautions due to recent issues.
« For several months now, we have been victims of repeated and organized thefts (more or less aggressive), whether inside the airport, while waiting for a taxi at the exit, or in the parking lots, » Jouan said.
« The police authorities I last met in mid-May 2009 promised me that they would increase security in the city, and especially at the airport, during the week of the European Formula 1 GP. Furthermore, passenger surveillance inside and outside the premises will need to be intensified. »
