Ferrari abandons 2009 to focus on 2010

Ferrari is lacking performance this year, and despite some ‘achievements’ rewarded with podiums in Monaco and Germany, the Scuderia is struggling to score points and make the F60 work. To avoid fighting in vain, the team should therefore primarily focus on the 2010 season in a few days; this is according to Domenicali, the director of the Italian team.

Currently, the Ferrari team is 4th in the Constructors’ World Championship, 2.5 points behind Toyota but already far too behind Red Bull Racing or Brawn GP. Ferrari is more than 60 points behind RBR-Renault and 80 behind BGP-Mercedes.

Mentioning the topic at the Nürburgring for the German Grand Prix last weekend, Stefano Domenicali warns: « It’s coming soon. »

« We have already started working on our new project and in the coming weeks, we will be focused exclusively on the new project to ensure we don’t waste time. We know that the next season will be crucial and we don’t want to start it with the same level of performance we had at the beginning of this season. In fact, it’s a matter of days, rather than weeks. »

Domenicali – director of the reds – also specified that the heavy work of the winter will consist of improving the understanding of the car.

« Look at the highs and lows of our cars and even of the competitors. The drivers never have the same performances, as evidenced by the fastest lap in the race of a Renault this weekend. Thus, we need to understand how the car will react in such and such conditions and how to improve it. »

According to several Italian sources, the prancing horse team is expected to abandon 2009 for good on Monday, with the past week serving as a debrief of the German GP and preparation for the Hungarian GP.
