Former Ferrari team principal Jean Todt confirmed that he will indeed be running for the FIA presidency at the end of the year.
A few hours after the outgoing president, Max Mosley, approved the Frenchman’s candidacy, he confirmed that he would indeed be in the race for the throne.
He is the second candidate to announce his candidacy, with former World Rally Champion Ari Vatanen, who launched his campaign last week.
Speaking about his decision, Todt stated: « Following Max Mosley’s decision not to seek a new term and his unequivocal support of my candidacy, I wrote to the FIA members informing them that I wish to stand for the presidency of the FIA. »
« It is my intention to continue and expand upon the remarkable work of President Mosley, who for 16 years has worked tirelessly to strengthen this magnificent Formula 1 championship with active promotion and a fierce passion for track safety. »
Taking into account the unique structure of the FIA, more than one president is needed to cover the organization and I am pleased to announce my leadership team: For the position of Vice President of Mobility, I propose Brian Gibbons, CEO of the New Zealand Automobile Association; for Vice President for Sport, I propose Stoker Graham, Chairman of the Motor Sports Association in Great Britain; and for President of the Senate, I propose Nick Craw, currently in office, Todt explained.
«I am convinced that together we will provide the FIA with the opportunity to extend dynamic leadership with a team strong in its experience and commitment. »
