Saturday: Red Bull takes advantage once again of the cool surroundings

Red Bull is becoming one of the big teams. Mark Webber, usually slightly behind his teammate’s vigor, made a strong impression by securing pole position at the German Grand Prix on the Nurburgring circuit. A first in the career of the Australian who was still on crutches a few months ago… He has therefore fully recovered and will of course aim for victory tomorrow for a pole/win double like his teammate.

Precisely, Sebastian Vettel showed his limits for the first time because today’s situation was favorable to him with wet and changing conditions. He is still 4th but will start behind the two Brawn drivers.

Mark Webber – 5th and 1st:

« It’s a very special day for me. I have been close to pole position several times in the past. Today, I did it and the team did an excellent job. We were all fast and every driver could have clinched pole position in Q3. Achieving the best time is fantastic. The car works very well here and I was talking to my engineer all the time, asking him what we were doing because the track conditions were tough. »

« In Q2, it was really difficult to read what we needed in the last ten minutes. In the end, the key for me was the third sector. I used my experience. We are the best drivers in the world and we know that when people make mistakes, it generally comes from bad tires. A big thank you to the whole team, here and at the factory, and I hope to achieve my first race victory tomorrow. We are in a fantastic position to do it. Obviously, Barrichello and Button are on the same level, but we look forward to the upcoming battle. »

Sebastian Vettel – 4th and 4th:

« Today, the qualifications were a bit of a lottery, particularly in Q2, because you never knew which tires to install. In Q3, it was back to dry tires, but it was very close. The track then evolved favorably throughout the session, but my last lap was not perfect, which is why I’m not on the front row. The car was good enough to be on pole today, but I didn’t make it. Who knows what will happen tomorrow in the race; the weather is very unpredictable here, so we’ll see. »

Christian Horner – Team Principal:

« Despite very difficult conditions, it is an excellent result for Mark [Webber] to achieve his first career pole. It puts him in an ideal position to start tomorrow’s race. Sebastian [Vettel] is a bit heavy on fuel, he didn’t do a very good job and seemed slower on his last lap. Unfortunately, the two Brawn managed to get ahead of him so let’s sandwich the two Brawn. I also think that McLaren can be dangerous placed just behind us with its KERS. It will be a very exciting race tomorrow. »
