Through its spokesperson, Ferrari sought to quell rumors regarding the arrival of Fernando Alonso in the Prancing Horse team in 2010.
For a few days now, rumors have been growing about the future of the Spaniard. The driver, currently with Renault but without results, could indeed leave the team at the end of the year to join Ferrari as early as 2010. It was the Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport and the Spanish newspaper Diario AS who first revealed the information; Ferrari announcing the agreement for the Italian Grand Prix in mid-September.
In the newspaper As, Luca Colajanni, the spokesperson for Scuderia, did not confirm anything: « Massa and Räikkönen are our drivers for 2009, you cannot say anything more. »
He continues by stating that the pilots’ contracts will be respected: « We are not going to waste time commenting on rumors. Moreover, Massa and Räikkönen both have a contract with us until the end of 2010. »
Fernando Alonso, who has always shown an interest in the Italian team, commented on the rumors with a simple « we will see what happens ».
The latest information reports an exchange between Massa and Alonso, with the former going to Renault and the latter to Ferrari. Caution is still advised as the season hasn’t yet reached its halfway point, and the traditional dance of transfer rumors is already making its appearance…
