The small Eastern European country, Bulgaria, will seek to join the Formula 1 calendar in 2011 when the circuit directors meet with Bernie Ecclestone in Germany next week.
The Bulgarian president of the Automobile Federation, Bogdan Nikolov, told the news agency Reuters that the event’s organizing committee has been invited to the German Grand Prix to discuss plans with the holder of commercial rights.
« We have already presented our plan a few months ago and it has been reviewed by the Formula One Management (FOM), » revealed Nikolov.
« According to the plans, Bulgaria could sign a contract to host a Formula 1 race between 2011 and 2015, and there is an option for a contract extension until 2020. »
The track, which still needs to be built, will likely be located near the city of Pleven.
