Thirty years ago, Renault achieved its first F1 victory

30 years ago, Jean-Pierre Jabouille gave Renault its first Formula 1 victory when he won the 1979 French Grand Prix. On this occasion, the team with the diamond emblem proposes to revisit its history in the premier category of motorsport, tracing its journey year by year. A journey that is among the most glorious and respected in the F1 microcosm.

1976: The Renault F1 program begins in Viry-Châtillon;

**1977 (May)**: The RS01 is officially presented on the Champs-Elysées;

1977 (July): First race with the big names in F1 at Silverstone driven by Jabouille;

1978: The team scores its first points at the United States Grand Prix;

1979: Jabouille secures Renault’s very first victory by winning the French Grand Prix;

1980: Renault leads the championship after three races but eventually finishes the season in 4th position;

1981 & 1982: Renault finishes third in the championship;

**1984**: Renault separates its two activities: engines designed in Viry and chassis in Evry;

1985: End of Formula 1 activity for Renault. The monitoring unit remains in place at Viry: the development of naturally aspirated engines will soon begin;

1989: Renault fields the first 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V10 F1 engine and achieves 2 victories with Williams-Renault;

1992: Williams-Renault wins the Constructors’ Championship, Nigel Mansell the Drivers’ Championship;

1995: Renault engines equip Williams and Benetton, win 16 out of 17 races and achieve a magnificent 1-2-3-4 of French engines at Magny-Cours;

1997: After 5 driver championships and 6 constructor titles, Renault’s official involvement as an engine supplier comes to an end;

2002: Renault makes its big comeback as an official team;

2003: First victory since his return to F1: Fernando Alonso wins the Hungarian GP;

2004: Renault finishes the season in 3rd place in the constructors’ standings;

2005: Consecration: Renault is the world constructors’ champion and its driver Fernando Alonso is crowned world champion;

2006: Renault claims the constructors’ crown and Fernando Alonso the drivers’ title;

2007: The team finishes 3rd in the constructors’ championship;

2008: After a difficult start to the season, a spectacular comeback with 2 victories;

Thirty years later, the team wants to be recognized for the same values. Challenge to take, taste for risk, and success. This season, the team has a great driver, the driver who has been the key to the diamond’s success in F1 since the 2000s, but Alonso remains a driver, and with a poorly designed car, he cannot fight for the win. Hopes remain intact and Renault has not yet said its last word in F1!
