The Williams team will celebrate four decades of Formula 1 this weekend at the Goodwood Festival. Founded in 1979, the team led by Sir Frank Williams and Patrick Head has since claimed 113 Grand Prix victories and nine constructors’ titles. Head, Williams, and Nico Rosberg will, of course, be present at this celebration.
The Goodwood Festival is one of the greatest opportunities for fans to get closer to motorsport by seeing drivers and cars up close. Williams will undoubtedly be at the center of this year’s celebrations. Several past and present drivers from the Grove team will be on site to sign autographs alongside a number of cars. Murray Walker will be providing commentary and will talk with Sir Frank Williams as well as drivers Jacques Laffite and David Coulthard. Also present in West Sussex will be Alan Jones and Damon Hill, World Champions in 1980 and 1996 with Williams.
The winning single-seaters of Hill and Jones will be on display, as well as other cars such as the 1970 Tomaso-Cosworth type 505 or the 2007 FW29 powered by Toyota.
« It will be a great moment for me and for everyone who has worked at Williams or supported the team over the years, » said Sir Frank Williams.
« This Festival is a very special event for us, » continued the current Grove team driver, Nico Rosberg, who finished in fifth place in the last two Grand Prix this season.
« There is a great atmosphere and I really encourage people to come to one of the biggest motorsport shows of the year! »
Still at Goodwood, the ex-F1 driver, Johnny Herbert will be present: « It’s great to be back at Goodwood and I am amazed by this event which grows and develops year after year, » said Herbert.
« There’s an ‘extra’ for me this year because, for the first time in my career, I’ll be behind the wheel of a ‘British Touring Car’. My first laps in a touring car at Goodwood are something very special. »
