British Formula 3 champion Jaime Alguersuari has taken on the role of third driver at Red Bull Racing for the remainder of the 2009 season.
Acting as the third driver for the Red Bull Racing and Toro Rosso teams, the Spaniard replaces the New Zealander, Brendon Hartley.
With Red Bull sharing its third driver between its two teams, Alguersuari, who competed with five wins for the Formula 3 title last year, attended the Spanish Grand Prix this season as a guest of the team. Currently enrolled in the World Series by Renault, the 19-year-old from Barcelona tested for Red Bull last year and also participated in a demonstration event for Toro Rosso at the Algarve circuit in Portugal.
With the testing ban this season, Jaime Alguersuari, a driver in the Red Bull young driver development program, will attend technical briefing sessions with official drivers Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel for the rest of the season, and listen to radio conversations between the duo and the pit wall during race weekends.
His predecessor Hartley Brandon will continue to race in Formula 3 Europe.
