Kazuki Nakajima is convinced that his rather frustrating start to the season without a single point will soon come to an end. He is aiming for good results after having narrowly missed points in the last two races.
The Williams driver had a decent race in Turkey, but his final stint, which was too long, penalized him, while at Silverstone, he got caught out by the pit stop strategy despite starting from fifth place on the grid.
But even though he has not managed to score a point to date and is currently at the bottom of the standings, Nakajima is optimistic about his prospects for the rest of the season, judging by his good pace in the last races.
“It’s frustrating because if you look at my results, it looks like a disaster,” said the Japanese. “But I have all my chances and the difference in the end is actually very small.”
« I am in a very positive state of mind. It is difficult today because even small differences in times can make a huge difference in terms of results. We just need to keep up our efforts. »
Nakajima believes that his strength in recent races is his pure pace.
« With my engineer, we are increasingly optimistic. For the entire team, it’s better to have two drivers who can rely on each other. »
« I am sure that we can achieve better results. We just need to learn a little more to do a little better. The result at Silverstone was disappointing, but at the same time, my race was very encouraging. »
And although this season is nothing like that of 2008, Nakajima believes he is performing at a completely different level this year.
Compared to last year, I am in a different mindset. Last year, if I had been at this level, I could have done much better. It’s very good for a driver to keep improving.
« The team did a much better job, and I am doing much better than last year. »
