Donington Park has received the final stamp of approval authorizing its track redevelopment program. This is another positive boost for the circuit.
The final document has been signed by all parties concerned. Work can therefore begin immediately on the site.
« It’s great to have overcome another hurdle and to see the hard work of an entire team being rewarded, » said Donington Park boss, Simon Gillett.
« There is no doubt that we still have a lot of work to do, but we will continue to stay positive and do everything we can to keep our promises. »
The construction work is obviously extremely important, but we also try not to rush so as not to compromise the arrival and experience of our visitors who will participate in the event.
Donington is scheduled to host the British Grand Prix next year and for the next 17 years.
However, doubts remain about these plans as Bernie Ecclestone suggested last weekend that Silverstone might still host the race next year.
The comments from the chief financial officer of Formula 1 were made after Silverstone director Robert Brooks claimed that Donington would not be ready in time.
Andrew Hampel, CEO of ISG, the construction company for Donington, contradicted Brooks by stating that there is no reason to believe the circuit will not be ready on time.
« It is absurd to say that the works at Donington Park will not be completed on time, » said Hampel. « Thanks to IMG and Bastion, ISG has extensive experience, and we are the world leaders in stadium and arena marketing. »
« Without a doubt, the enthusiasts are ready to have the same level of quality as the fans of other major sports who have since become regulars. There is no reason that Donington Park should not be ready on time. »
