Ferrari does not give up on using its KERS system for the rest of the 2009 season simply because three other teams have developed the device since the beginning of the season.

At Silverstone last weekend, the cars from Maranello were the only ones equipped with the kinetic energy recovery system along with Kovalainen’s. Indeed, Renault and BMW have now ceased all development.

But Massa said to the Italian newspaper La Stampa: We will continue to use it, because the design of our single-seater was based on it. We will probably use it in races for the rest of the season.

The 28-year-old Brazilian claims that the system helped him and his teammate Kimi Räikkönen cross the finish line at the recent British Grand Prix. Without the KERS, the F60 package is not fast enough.

« The KERS is very useful to us, especially at the start of races. From another point of view, if our car had been better, regularly starting from the front row, we wouldn’t have needed the KERS, » added Massa.

He achieved a fine fourth place last Sunday, but he is urgently asking Team Ferrari to focus their attention on the 2010 car.

« We must continue to work hard and bring new developments for the upcoming races, but we are seeing the limits of the current car. Of course, a car can always be improved, but perhaps now the work for next year should be our main concern. »

Massa is currently at his home in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
