US F1, the new American team set to join the FIA championship in 2010, is reportedly looking for a European base near Charlotte, North Carolina, where the team is headquartered.
It was reported earlier this year that the team led by British journalist Peter Windsor was hoping to acquire the operational base of the Spanish team Epsilon Euskadi, while the cars would be designed and built in North Carolina.
But Epsilon Euskadi then submitted its own application to participate in the 2010 Formula 1 championship. The situation of the team is quite unclear as of today since it has not been confirmed on the 2010 list but is awaiting the decision regarding the eight constructors of the FOTA.
The French newspaper Nice Matin reports that the American team is rather looking for a base in France like the Paul Ricard circuit in Castellet.
The daily claims that Windsor is in a phase of advanced negotiations with the director of Paul Ricard, Gérard Neveu.
« Their project is very structured and leaves no room for doubt. They are completely serious, » commented Neveu.
