Assessment: Every point counts according to Brawn GP!

The Brawn GP team is honest and finds their result satisfactory. Every point is important at this stage of the competition, both for the constructor’s and driver’s championship. Brawn GP brings back 9 points from Silverstone and thus doesn’t lose too much ground to Red Bull.

The team, in addition to being honest and realistic, is also fair play and knows that its main weakness lies when the Grand Prix is held in cool conditions. The issue is being resolved, but Barrichello still manages to climb onto the podium, a joy for the Brazilian. Button, with more difficulty, takes 6th place and continues to fight for the championship.

Rubens Barrichello – 3rd:

« I am really proud of the third place at Silverstone. It was a complicated weekend for the team, and we knew that if the temperatures didn’t rise, we wouldn’t be able to perform well and beat the Red Bulls. The car was very well balanced, and we haven’t lost performance since the last Grand Prix, it’s just that we struggle with the cold weather when it comes to heating the tires. »

« I got off to a good start and then lost sight of Sebastian Vettel. It was then that we realized with the team that we were fighting for third place. There was a very slight difference in tire components, but the soft ones were definitely better in the race than the hard ones. So it was difficult for me to do my second (fairly long) stint on hard tires. Third is probably the best position we could hope for this weekend, and I’m even happier because I’m bringing points to the team and getting closer to Jenson [Button] in the championship. »

Jenson Button – 6th:

« At this point in the competition, every point is important, so bringing back three is always a good thing even though my weekend at home was very frustrating. I had a bad start while Trulli was slow in front of me and I couldn’t overtake him. I tried the inside, then the outside of the first corners, but others were overtaking as well. From the 9th position, it’s never easy to have a good race. »

« Then, I was stuck behind him, despite my soft tires and more powerful car. I couldn’t overtake him. Then during my second stint, I switched to hard tires, which were difficult to bring up to temperature, while in my last stint on soft tires, I was able to catch up with several competitors; Rosberg and Massa. I didn’t have time to overtake them. It’s a shame not to have done better, but the car was still very good. We just need to understand why the car performs like this in cool conditions and hope for warmer conditions in the future. »

Ross Brawn – Director

« For the challenge that a home race always represents, it is nonetheless a satisfying result. Rubens [Barrichello] managed to achieve his second consecutive podium while Jenson [Button] was able to regain a good level of performance after a poor start. We scored important points for the championship. »

« We knew that the car didn’t perform very well in the cold, especially when it came to warming up the tires; this was already the case earlier in Shanghai… However, the performance shown by Button at the end of the race is very encouraging, and we can take several measures as a result to find a solution. Congratulations nonetheless to Red Bull for their impressive one-two, and we hope to compete against them again in Germany. »
