The race was expected to be complicated for the Indian team Force India. Fisichella wasn’t at his best, and Sutil had to start from the pits after his severe accident in qualifying. Nevertheless, the VJM01 cars got off to a good start and managed to keep up with the pace of the top teams.
Fisichella got off to a very good start, overtaking 5 competitors at the beginning of the race. He then benefited from a very good strategy to reach 10th place. Opportunistic moreover, the Italian might have been able to score points with a better qualification.
Nothing to say about the Grand Prix, Force India will only regret its qualifications.
Adrian Sutil – 17th:
We rebuilt the car after my crash in qualifying, but the car had sustained a lot of damage, and during my warm-up lap, I experienced a fuel pressure problem. We managed to fix it and start the race, but I am very disappointed with the result. We missed a big opportunity in qualifying because of the accident, and in the race, I was not as competitive anymore. I settled for finishing the race without being able to overtake, which was a bit boring, but at least I made it to the finish. Let’s see what happens in Germany; we can hope to do well thanks to the new performant parts brought here this weekend.
Giancarlo Fisichella – 10th:
« We wanted to finish in the top 10 this weekend. We didn’t think it would be possible, but in the end, I had a very good race and probably did the maximum we could. It was a fun race. I had a good start and was able to overtake many drivers in the first lap, then even in the second by passing Kubica and both Renaults. I was really focused at the start, it was important for our strategy. »
« If I hadn’t been so badly qualified because of the red flag, maybe I could have scored a point; eighth place was within my reach and at the end of the race I was even faster than Glock and Räikkönen ahead of me. It’s a good step forward and I am looking forward to the next race with great interest. »
Dr Vijay Mallya – Director
« It was a very impressive race for the team. We had our share of bad luck in qualifying when Adrian Sutil had an accident, ruining his and Fisichella’s qualifications, but actually, even with that, we are happy with the race in terms of reliability and performance, so who knows what could have happened if we had qualified better. »
« I am very confident for the upcoming races. Here, we were able to beat some ‘top teams’ so I’m expecting a lot from the next Grand Prix. »
